WHAT IS DAMU?

We are proud to launch this innovative initiative as part of Black History Month 2024, raising awareness about Sickle Cell disease and the critical need for ethnically matched blood donations among Sub-Saharan African and Caribbean communities. Through the power of music, storytelling, and community engagement, we aim to inspire action and make a life-saving impact.” The project leverages creative expression to address vital health issues affecting the African and Caribbean diaspora. Partnering with local artists, faith groups, and community organizations, we will deliver workshops, live performances, and cultural events to promote awareness about Sickle Cell disease and encourage blood donations.

WHAT WE DO

Damu – Thicker Than Water is a bold and culturally rooted community campaign that champions blood donation within Black African and Caribbean communities. The word “Damu” means “blood” in Swahili—a powerful symbol of life, kinship, and the unseen bonds that connect us.
